Maureen's teaching practice focuses on helping students with physical challenges like back and neck pain and osteoporosis and with their energetic, emotional, and spirit-level work. She teaches yogic, tantric, and Taoist practices to imbue everyday life with love, compassion, ease, joy, pleasure, and clarity.

She began practicing yoga in 1992 and quickly experienced dramatic healing on all levels. At first, her physical body transformed. Her scoliosis and pectus excavatum (a congenital defect in the sternum and ribcage that results in its sinking into the chest) greatly improved, chronic back pain dissolved, and reduced lung capacity increased. Soon after, the anxiety and panic attacks that had plagued her since childhood disappeared. Her practice created greater self-awareness, provided access to a peaceful state of being, and imbued her life with meaning.

Maureen’s yoga lineage is tantric. She practiced daily with her first teacher one-on-one for four years; his guidance created the foundation upon which her practice and perspective are rooted. Then, she studied Purna yoga with physical therapist Rachel Krentzman, author of Yoga for a Happy Back: A Teacher's Guide to Spinal Health through Yoga Therapy. With Rachel's guidance, Maureen used yoga to recover from debilitating back and neck pain that surfaced in her 30s. Inspired to make yoga an even larger part of her everyday life, she completed the 200-hour yoga teacher training at Deep Yoga School of Healing Arts in 2010, led by Bhava Ram, author of Warrior Pose: How Yoga (Literally) Saved My Life, and Laura Plumb. Their teaching is informed by ayurveda, mantra, the deep philosophical perspectives of yoga, and Hinduism. Maureen has been teaching yoga ever since.

Maureen attended graduate school for Chinese medicine and has studied Tibetan and Ayurveda medicine, tui na (Chinese medical massage), Taoist philosophy and clinical counseling, Worsley Five-Element Theory, western and Chinese herbalism, and nutrition.

In addition to her E-RYT 200 and YACEP certifications with Yoga Alliance, Maureen is certified to teach Yoga for CancerCare, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Trauma-Informed Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. She completed advanced training in the Yoga for Cancer Patients program at Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center of New York. She developed and teaches the Green Lotus Yin Yoga Teacher Training and Yoga for CancerCare training programs. Maureen is a reiki master, ordained minister, bhakti yogi, and devotee of Neem Karoli Baba.

Maureen teaches yoga classes and workshops, does public speaking for cancer organizations, performs marriages, and sees clients for private yoga and mantra meditation instruction. She also does I Ching readings, rune stone readings, and distance reiki sessions.
